PathsPaths and tractor roads from OpenStreetMap, drawn like MapAnt’s own path overlay. Useful on MapAnt and satellite, which show no paths. Paved ways are drawn as a solid line, everything else dashed. Zoomed out you get the main paths, with the rest filling in as you zoom past 14. Downloadable for offline use, but the source rebuilds its data weekly, so re-download now and then to keep it working.
Coordinate GridDraws a reference grid over the map.
CrosshairCenter reticle plus a live position readout (see below).
Crosshair & coordinates
Turn on Crosshair in the layers menu to read off any point.
ReticleA crosshair marks the exact center of the map.
Readout cardBottom-left: coordinates, elevation, slope, and distance from you.
Switch formatTap the coordinates to cycle Lat/Lng → DMS → UTM → MGRS.
Set a defaultSettings → Coordinate Format sets which one is used everywhere.
Measuring distance
Two-finger measure — the quick way
MeasureTap the map with two fingers at once. A dashed line and the straight-line distance between them appear.
ClearIt fades away on its own after a few seconds.
Ruler — for multi-point routes
Turn onTap the Ruler button. A card appears reading “Tap to measure”.
Add pointsTap along the map. The card shows running total distance and point count.
Undo / clearUse the buttons on the card to remove the last point or clear all.
Keep itWith 2+ points, tap Save as Track to store the line as a track.
Turn offTap the Ruler button again.
Recording a track
StartTap Record. On first use, allow background location so it keeps logging with the screen off.
While recordingA red card shows live distance; a notification keeps it running in the background.
StopTap the button again (now a stop square).
SaveName the track and tap Save — or Discard to throw it away.
Saved tracks
Open Settings → Saved Tracks for everything you have recorded or imported.
Show on MapOpens the track, fitted to the screen, with a banner naming it.
Move to folderFile the track into a folder — pick an existing one or create a new one.
RenameEdit the track name.
ExportSave as a standard GPX file.
ShareSend it through the system share sheet.
DeleteRemove the track.
Folders: filed tracks appear as collapsible sections, with unfiled tracks kept at the top. A folder's menu renames or removes it, or selects all or none of its tracks — removing a folder keeps its tracks. Long-press to select several tracks and move them together.
Importing tracks
From a fileOpen a GPX or FIT file from your device or another app.
Several at oncePick multiple files or a whole zip; you're offered a folder to drop them in (a zip suggests its own name).
From a linkIn Settings → Saved Tracks, paste a link from Ut.no, Garmin Connect, Komoot, or Strava — or any URL ending in .gpx or .fit.
ConfirmA single file previews before it is added.
Saved points
Save a pointPress and hold a spot on the map, name it, and tap Save.
EditTap a marker to change its name, description, or color.
DeleteUse Delete in that same dialog.
Manage allSettings → Saved Points lists them; tap any to jump to it.
Show / hideToggle Saved Points in the layers menu.
Live location sharing
Let people follow you in real time in any web browser — no account needed. Open Settings → Online Tracking.
Share your location
Turn onEnable online tracking. You get a short client ID.
Start sharingSwitch on sharing and pick a duration (15 min up to 8 hours).
Send the linkUse Share Tracking Link, or View on Web to open it yourself.
Who's watchingA chip on the map shows the viewer count and time left.
New IDRegenerate the client ID to retire the old link.
Share points
Drop a pointWhile sharing, long-press the map and choose Share only or Save and share — name it (e.g. "Meet here at 14:00").
Everyone sees itFollowers get the named marker on their map instantly, no coordinates to text around.
Move or deleteTap your own point to rename, recolor, move it, or remove it.
Keep a copyTap a friend's shared point and choose Save locally to store it on your device.
LifetimeShared points disappear when your sharing session ends.
Follow someone
FollowEnter their 6-character client ID and tap Follow. Add up to five to follow the whole group.
On the mapEach one draws live in their own colour, labelled with their client ID. A banner lists who you follow; tap it to fit them all on screen.
StopRemove one from the list in Online Tracking, or tap the X on the banner to stop following everyone.
On the web: open where.synth.no to watch live tracks in any browser, filter by client ID, and view recent tracks from the last day.
Offline maps
Download map areas so they work with no signal. Open Settings → Offline Maps and pick a layer.
DownloadTap the hexagons over the area you want, then tap Download. A progress bar appears at the top.
Hex colorsGray = not downloaded, green = done, and partial areas can be continued.
Elevation dataOptionally include altitude and slope so the crosshair readout works offline.
ManageSee size per layer, delete a layer, or clear the tile cache.
Offline ModeThe Offline Mode switch stops all network use, relying only on downloads.
